2007 Symposium Agenda

In order to accommodate the interests and schedules of participants the symposium has been divided into four 2-day modules, each of which will build on those that came before. Participants are invited to attend the symposium for as many modules as they choose.

Module 1 - Developing Theory/Practice (November 6-7): Participants will explore the symposium’s thematic areas - “Diaspora Dialogues” and “Cultural Approaches to Peacebuilding”. The deliberations around these areas will involve presentations from a diversity of perspectives, small and large group discussions, and workgroups to collectively build and begin to apply theory. This module will also include one or more training / experiential sessions for participants to gain skills and knowledge that they can apply to their own work. Possible session topics include: trauma healing, forum theatre, and ethnodrama.

Module 2 - Applying Theory/Practice (November 8-9): This module will apply the theory and practices developed in the first module toward the development of concrete projects and programmes. The module will use open space technology, where participants create and design their own agendas and work plans. Ideas will be creatively mapped in an ongoing way. The resulting projects and programmes will later be integrated into the work of InterChange, which will provide a structure for these applications to be developed. Participants who are not yet members of InterChange will be encouraged to join and to continue the collaborative work begun at the symposium.

Module 3 - Local Education (November 10-11): Participants, especially those coming from outside the region, will have the opportunity to learn about the local situation and the work being done by our colleagues in the area. Activities include: visiting significant historical and commemorative sites, networking, and visiting local projects.

Module 4 - InterChange meetings (November 12-13): Participants will make decisions about how to advance the projects discussed in the previous modules. Participants will also discuss the future development of InterChange. This module will also incorporate the Annual General Meeting of InterChange.
