Symposium
- InterChange's inaugural symposium, held June 9-12, 2005 in Toronto, Canada, brought together more than 40 people from at least 13 regions of the world. Participants contributed to six panels that focused on case studies, training issues, and the challenges of working in and rebuilding communities in conflict.
- Funding for the symposium was received from IDRC, CIDA, OISE, and the Connaught Foundation.
- A network has been established on at least three continents as a result of the inaugural symposium and follow-up meetings in Nairobi, Kenya.
Communications
- The Institute’s web site has been created and is being expanded to meet a wide range of needs including information and promotion, networking functions, and resource dissemination.
- Communications functions, including a listserve and skype, have been successfully used for international collaboration.
Research and Projects
- Members of InterChange have engaged in preliminary brainstorming and discussions about collaborative research initiatives and other projects
Structure
- Over 150 individuals from all over the world are a part of InterChange's listserve; 50 of these have been actively participating in committees and organizational discussions.
- Members have agreed upon a name, vision, mission, objectives, and draft principles.
- Active committees have been established and are functioning in the areas of structure, communications, research, and publications.
- InterChange has achieved Charitable status in Canada. It is to begin the process of incorporation in Fall 2006.
- University connections have been established in Kenya, Uganda, Croatia, and Canada.
