Research & Other Projects
Documentation of Traditional Methods of Justice
The goal of this project is to research and document traditional cultural methods of justice and reconciliation from different cultures and parts of the world. The values and assumptions underlying the models will be studied, as will their contribution to restorative justice.
Researchers from around the world will study and document different models, resulting in succinct descriptions which will be published in the original language they were written, as well as in French and English. At the end of each round of research and documentation, a short book will be published, and research will continue into other models, resulting in an ongoing series of publications. The first round of researchers has been identified, with Anne Goodman of Toronto, Canada, taking on a coordinating role for the project.
Because the main beneficiaries of the project will be community-based peacebuilders, the research findings will be presented in an accessible way. However, the project will also be useful for academics, government and policy-makers.
